César Antonio Ramírez-Sarmiento The 48th Lorne Conference on Protein Structure and Function 2023

César Antonio Ramírez-Sarmiento

César A. Ramírez-Sarmiento is an Associate Professor at the Institute for Biological and Medical Engineering (IIBM) from Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile and Adjunct Researcher from the Millenium Institute for Integrative Biology (iBio). His research group employs experimental and computational strategies to unveil the folding-function-evolution relationships of metamorphic proteins, prototypical models to understand the emergence of protein folds in nature, and of bacterial enzymes that hydrolyze PET, a widely used plastic that accumulates as waste in landfills and natural environments at similar rates to its production. Recently, his group focused on developing open-source molecular kits for the detection of viral infections, including SARS-CoV-2.
